About

Jazzanova is a German collective from Berlin that formed in 1995 as a DJ team before transitioning to production in 1996. The group consists of Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Roskow Kretschmann, Stefan Leisering, and Axel Reinemer, spanning across Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. In 1998, they founded Sonar Kollektiv, a label that operates alongside their collective of musicians, producers, and DJs. The name Jazzanova derives from Ira Kris Group's 1972 album "Jazzanova."

Their sound blends house, electronica, and afro house with downtempo and nu jazz elements, creating music that ranges from chillout-oriented tracks to more dancefloor-focused material. Jazzanova releases primarily on their own Sonar Kollektiv label and BBE Music, with their catalog spanning from jazz-influenced electronica to contemporary house productions. Their approach incorporates acid jazz and nu jazz foundations while adapting to modern electronic music contexts, making their releases suitable for both listening environments and DJ sets that require sophisticated, jazz-tinged electronic music.
