John Acquaviva

John Acquaviva is an Italian-Canadian DJ and producer born November 19, 1963, in Orsara di Puglia, Italy. He operates under aliases including Joncoe and The African, and met his frequent collaborator Richie Hawtin in 1989. Before co-founding Plus 8 Records Ltd., Acquaviva ran a short-lived label called Flavor Records that featured local rap acts. His electronic music career began in earnest with his first tracked release in May 2010.

Acquaviva produces house, tech house, and driving techno, with recent exploration into deep house and Afro house territories. His releases appear on established labels including Definitive Recordings, Get Physical Music, 303Lovers, Plastik Galaxy, and BluFin. His sound ranges from peak-time driving techno to deeper, more groove-oriented house tracks, demonstrating versatility across the house-techno spectrum. With 33 releases documented since 2010, his output maintains consistent activity in the underground electronic scene, with releases scheduled through February 2026.
