Kapote

Kapote is the Berlin-based alias of Italian-German producer Mathias Modica, born March 18, 1977 in Rome, Italy. He started his music career in Munich before relocating to Berlin, where he operates as both a DJ and the head of Toy Tonics record label. Previously, Modica released music under the name Munk on the now-discontinued Gomma label before establishing his current artistic identity in 2015.

Kapote's sound spans deep house, funky house, afro house, and jackin house, with releases appearing exclusively on his own Toy Tonics imprint since his debut in November 2015. His 75-release catalog demonstrates a consistent focus on groove-driven house music that incorporates African rhythms and classic disco elements. The Toy Tonics releases showcase his range from deeper, more contemplative tracks to uptempo jackin house that pushes dance floors, with his production style maintaining the warm, analog-influenced aesthetic that defines the Berlin house scene.
