James Barrett operates as Keepsakes, a techno producer originally from the United Kingdom who relocated to Christchurch, New Zealand. Barrett began releasing music in 2014 and runs the OAKS record label alongside organizing OAKS parties in New Zealand. He maintains his production base in Ōtautahi, the Māori name for Christchurch, where he has developed his career over the past decade.

Keepsakes delivers peak time and driving techno alongside harder variants including hard techno and hardcore elements. Barrett releases music on established labels including Boysnoize Records, Perc Trax, Haven, and South London Analogue Material, demonstrating his reach across European and international techno circuits. His sound spans from driving techno suitable for peak hours to harder dance floor material, with occasional ventures into Afro house territory. The project has maintained consistent output with 13 releases tracked since 2014, indicating sustained activity within underground techno scenes.
