Maelstrom

Joan-Mael Péneau produces electronic music under the alias Maelstrom from France, launching his career in March 2012 with his debut release. The French producer also records under the aliases Low Possum and Mr Strom, maintaining an active output with 22 releases spanning over a decade. Péneau co-founded the RAAR label, which serves as one of his primary release platforms alongside his production work.

Maelstrom's sound centers on peak-time driving techno and classic Detroit electro, with occasional forays into house and indie dance territories. His releases appear on Central Processing Unit, Dalmata Daniel, Mechatronica, and Tripalium Corp, labels known for their electro and techno focus. The project delivers high-energy club material designed for peak hours, with his electro productions drawing from Detroit's classic template while his techno work emphasizes driving rhythms suitable for large room environments.
