Makaya Marcus McCraven is an American jazz drummer and producer born in Paris in 1983 to drummer Stephen McCraven and Hungarian folk singer Ágnes Zsigmondi. Based in Chicago, McCraven built his reputation in contemporary jazz and nu jazz before transitioning into electronic music production in 2025 with his first house music release on XL Recordings.
McCraven's electronic output focuses on house music, releasing five tracks on XL Recordings between June and October 2025. His productions blend his jazz drumming background with house rhythms, creating groove-heavy tracks that maintain the improvisational spirit of his acoustic work while adapting to club-ready tempos. The crossover from his established jazz career brings a distinct rhythmic complexity to his house productions, offering DJs tracks that work both in intimate settings and larger dance floors.
