Model 500 originates from Detroit and operated as an alias for Juan Atkins until 2008. Since then, the project has evolved into a trio featuring Juan Atkins alongside Milton Baldwin and Mark Taylor. The group releases primarily through Metroplex and its subsidiary Metroplex (Phonofile), with additional output on Echospace [Detroit].

Model 500 produces techno ranging from raw and hypnotic to peak time driving styles, maintaining the foundational Detroit techno sound established in the genre's formative years. Their releases span from deep, meditative electronica to harder-edged club tracks suitable for peak-hour sets.
