Phuture is a Chicago-based acid house group founded in 1985 by DJ Pierre, Earl 'Spanky' Smith, and Herbert 'Herb J' Jackson. The group formed after the three friends spent countless hours at Chicago's Music Box, absorbing the innovative sounds of DJ Ron Hardy. Current members include L.A. Williams, Ron Maney, Damon Neloms, Darrel Lewis, and Roy Davis Jr., with the lineup evolving since their formation nearly four decades ago.
The group produces acid house, deep house, techno, and tech house, releasing music on labels including Trax Records, Get Physical Music, Strictly Rhythm, Afro Acid Digital, and Avotre. Their sound spans from driving peak-time techno to more subdued deep house territories, maintaining the acid-tinged aesthetic that defined Chicago's underground scene in the 1980s. Phuture has maintained consistent output with releases dating from 2018 through 2025, demonstrating their continued relevance in contemporary electronic music circles while honoring their acid house roots.
