About

Plastikman is the main recording identity of Canadian producer Richard Michael Hawtin, who began releasing music in 1990 under various aliases including F.U.S.E. and States of Mind before launching the Plastikman project in 1993. Hawtin operates the Minus label and has released material through Plus 8 Records, From Our Minds, LF RMX, and Turbo Recordings, with his first documented release on Electrobuzz dating to December 2010 and his most recent appearing in December 2024.

Plastikman's sound spans acidic techno, minimal techno, and tech house, with releases ranging from the extreme energy of tracks like "Spastik" in 1993 to the futuristic rhythms and ambient explorations of albums like "Consumed" in 1998. His minimal approaches became particularly evident through the year-long "Concept 1" twelve-record project from 1996, while current releases demonstrate raw, deep, and hypnotic techno alongside peak-time driving material and modern electro influences. The project maintains its focus on sonic experimentation while delivering both dancefloor-focused material and more introspective compositions suitable for deeper listening.
