Born in Ohio, Owens relocated to Chicago where he worked extensively with Larry Heard in the mid-1980s and formed the group Fingers Inc. with Ron Wilson. He runs the Musical Directions label and has released music under the aliases Tayus and Musical Directions. Owens released his debut solo album "Rhythms In Me" in 1990 and achieved recognition for his vocal feature on "Tears" with Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie.
