Satoshi Tomiie

Satoshi Tomiie is a Japanese DJ and producer from Tokyo who relocated to New York and began his career in electronic music in 1989 with "Tears," a collaboration with Frankie Knuckles. Born in 1966, Tomiie operates under several aliases including Black Shells, Loop 7, and Shellshock, and runs his own Kaoz Theory label. Throughout the 1990s, he toured with Ryuichi Sakamoto and built a reputation remixing tracks for U2, Mariah Carey, Photek, Simply Red, and David Bowie.

Tomiie's sound spans deep house, minimal deep tech, house, tech house, and peak time techno, with releases appearing on Phonogramme, No.19 Music, and My Favorite Robot Records since his first Electrobuzz-tracked release in 2010. His productions typically feature driving basslines and hypnotic arrangements that work equally well in intimate club settings and larger festival environments. Recent releases on Curation Best Of 2025 demonstrate his continued evolution within the deeper spectrum of house music, maintaining the sophisticated production aesthetic that defined his breakthrough 1999 album "Full Lick."
