About

Session Victim is a German DJ and production duo consisting of Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling from Lüneburg, Germany, currently based in Berlin. The pair began DJing together in 1997 in their hometown before separating in 2001, with Freer moving to Berlin and becoming involved in label management through his Retreat imprint with Quarion, while Reiling relocated to Hamburg and played in metal band Tutribes. They reunited as Session Victim in 2008 for their first release and have maintained a prolific output with 56 releases spanning from 2010 to 2025.

Their sound centers on deep house and house music with excursions into tech house and organic house territories. Session Victim releases primarily on Delusions Of Grandeur, Night Time Stories, Toy Tonics, and Friends of Friends Music, labels that reflect their preference for groove-driven, analog-influenced productions. Their tracks typically feature warm, rolling basslines and intricate percussion programming that sits comfortably in both peak-time and deeper DJ sets. The duo's extensive catalog demonstrates consistency in their approach to sample-heavy, soulful house music that draws from disco and funk influences while maintaining modern production standards.
