Shades Of Gray

Shades of Gray is a house duo comprising Czech producer Michal Růžička and Australian producer Nick West, with their project spanning between Czech Republic and Sydney, Australia. The duo formed in 2005 when Růžička, who performs under the alias DJ Schwa, arrived in Australia and connected with West over their shared passion for electronic music. Růžička and West established Beef Records as their primary outlet, with their first release appearing in December 2009.

Their sound centers on deep house and tech house productions, with excursions into minimal/deep tech and peak time techno territories. The duo releases exclusively on their own Beef Records imprint, maintaining full creative control over their 25-release catalog spanning from 2009 to 2019. Their tracks typically operate in the deeper spectrum of house music, offering DJs both underground basement cuts and more driving tech house material suitable for peak hours, with their minimal approach providing stripped-back alternatives to their more layered house productions.
