The Orb

The Orb is a British electronic group formed in London in 1988 by Jimmy Cauty and Alex Paterson. Alex Paterson remains the only consistent member throughout the group's history, with the lineup shifting over the years to include Thomas Fehlmann, Kris Weston, Lewis Keogh, and Nina Walsh. The group also operates under the alias The Geep and has maintained an active presence since their formation.

The Orb produces ambient house, chillout, and IDM music that incorporates dub influences and electronic soundscapes. Their releases appear on labels including Kompakt, Natura Viva In The Mix, and Music Man Records, with their Electrobuzz catalog spanning from 2015 to 2025. The group's sound encompasses dub techno and electronica elements, positioning their music in the ambient and downtempo spectrum suitable for both listening environments and club settings that favor atmospheric electronic music.
