The XX

The xx is a British group from Wandsworth, London, formed in 2005. The band consists of Romy Madley Croft on vocals and guitar, Oliver Sim on vocals and bass, and Jamie Smith on beats, production, and keyboards. Baria Qureshi departed the group in November 2009 due to exhaustion and personal differences. The trio began releasing electronic music in 2010, with their first documented release appearing on October 25, 2010.

The xx produces deep house, tech house, and indie dance tracks that blend electronic production with their indie pop foundation. Their electronic releases appear on Young Turks, spanning from 2010 to 2018 across six releases. Jamie Smith's production work drives their electronic sound, incorporating programmed beats and synthesized elements that transform their minimalist indie approach into club-oriented house music. The group's electronic output maintains the intimate vocal interplay between Croft and Sim while adding four-on-the-floor rhythms and deeper basslines suitable for dancefloor contexts.
