A slew of remixers step up to the plate to take on material from Danny Daze’s ferocious electro-inspired “Silicon” EP for Ultramajic, continuing the young label’s hot streak in 2014. Trippy electronic veteran Erika (of Interdimensional Transmissions and Ectomorph) turns in two versions of “Beatdown” – a “Spaced Up” version that lives up to its name with a huge sense of space, spooky atmospherics and echoes galore, and a “Spaced Out” version that ties the otherworldly vibes to a pounding 4/4 pattern. Vincenzo – No Strings Attached EP [Anjunadeep] Following last summer’s sleeper hit “Junebug” and a classy EP on Steve Bug’s Dessous label, deep house legend Vincenzo makes a exciting return to Anjunadeep with his “No Strings Attached EP”. Rob Hes – Love The Enemy EP [Tronic] Rob Hes graces Tronic with three distinct tracks that showcase his mastery of modern production and groove manipulation. The title track is overflowing with warped synths and mangled samples, creating a tense soundscape over a snappy drumset. The air is immediately cleared, however, with the arrival of pulsing chords that propel the affair even further. On “Legend”, a bubbling bassline morphs into an arpeggiating juggernaut while a grinding rhythm section steamrolls at full throttle. Shenoda – Letters From The B.A.G EP [Hypercolour] It’s always nice to welcome back our nearest and dearest, and Shenoda was there when we kicked things off back in 2007, taking the third release on Hypercolour and becoming an integral part of our musical family. Along the way, Laurie has racked up some great releases on Fear Of Flying, our own sister label Losing Suki, Defected (a collaboration with Huxley) and most recently and an EP for George Fitzgerald’s Man Make Music imprint. On ‘Thinking Of’, Shenoda goes for a chugging slow groove and some chopped up vox, but it’s some trademark techno licks that work it’s way into the cut, all spacey synths and distorted bass, picking up the pace with some rolling hat work. ‘Bad Moyles’ is a playful house jam, soaked in just the right amount of reverb as the claps and rims hit precision hard and a Todd Terry-esque stab plays out the melody. Proper house tackle, right here. Wrapping up the EP is ‘You Can Tell’, sparse beats and moody bass set the rather murky tone here, making it a very cool slice of late night house, the subby pads giving it some warmth whilst …
