SNTS may be one of many anonymous techno figures, but their music has more than enough character to be heard among the background noise. Returning to Horizontal Ground after a label debut earlier this year and a string of impressive singles for their self-titled label, this latest SNTS record delivers their most alluring combination of dark ambient textures and bone-crunching rhythms yet. “Track 1” is a sounds like an eerie, greyscale Ben Frost composition, but the rest is aimed firmly at the floor; “Track 2” buzzes and throbs like Rrose’s “Waterfall”, the syncopated drums of “Track 2” recall Cut Hands shot through with gothic textures, and “Track 4” sounds like Marcel Dettmann taking a trip through a landscape blasted by nuclear winter. Bleak, but irresistibly so.
