Japanese explorer of the deep Dayzero is next up on Nerve Collect with his Step Inna EP, which brings six tracks of meticulously crafted post-dubstep rhythm and bass. Tokyo-based Dayzero has long been providing a link between the Far East and the UK underground. His futuristic sounds rewire dubstep, techno, breaks and bass with psychedelic colours and spaced out moods on leading labels like Livity Sound and ZamZam. He has a new album on the way this year, but first comes this latest intersection of body-driven, mind-expanding sounds. Revival is engineered for full-body movement. Its intelligent, instinctive and just a bit unhinged as watery droplets and a frazzled lead warp space and time while mangled bass drills down deep. Step Inna skanks through a dystopian dreamscape with chanting dub vocals. They echo like encrypted mantras as calculated bass patterns ground the groove, percussive hits launch you skyward and then collapse inward. Antibody has spring-loaded bass that rebounds under rogue circuitry while the rhythm stutters in broken, syncopated spasms below a smattering of wobbly toms. Remains is highly pressured and kinetic, a thudding rhythm with overdriven tribal percussion pining you to the floor. Alignment is a tectonic transmission sent back from tomorrowmechanical yet organic, the bassline rumbles with subatomic weight beneath ghostly pads and static-charged synth lines. Gravity Phase is where ancient raga meets future bass culture. Stringy Indian melodies linger in the shuffling dub rhythms and wordless vocals drift like vapour trails in a soundscape where mysticism and machinery collide. This is an EP of precision-guided portals to the outer edges of bass music.
