Behind the Electro (Classic / Detroit / Modern) : Release Notes
SoHaSo is shaking up the bass bins with local talent M.R.E., who combines fluid electro-funk with subtle melancholy and beautiful melodies. M.R.E. is the alter ego of Utrecht-based producer Michiel Eskes, who has gained some recognition in the Dutch underground scene as a radio host. He only started producing a few years ago. Following singles on Deeper State and Fluid Electronics, Plausible Placebo marks his debut on SoHaSo. Eskes has mastered the art of combining smooth electro beats with elegantly gliding strings, making his machine funk sound far more human and warm. Label boss Nuno dos Santos single-handedly transformed the dreamy Red Breast Robins into a wonderfully four-to-the-floor club track that lands somewhere between dub techno with melancholic strings. Sweet stuff.
