Perc Trax is proud to present this surprise collaboration between label boss Perc and US based Afghan-Canadian producer Barbosa. The two tracks here present a new aesthetic for Perc Trax and possibly for contemporary techno as a whole; bass heavy, psychedelia tinged minimalist techno. ‘One’ opens up the EP and immediately sets out the parameters of this new sound. Built upon Barbosa’s foundation of thick sub heavy kicks and rough vinyl textures Perc then adds sharp synth clicks, spaced out dislocated vocal hooks and the simplest of hihat patterns to drive the track forward. ‘Two’ completes the release, adding the kind of metallic percussion hits that are a Perc and Perc Trax signature as well rising noise drones and washes of mechanical noise. ‘Two’ can be seen as the reverse of ‘One’, a darker, more heads down track, the perfect partner to the bright vocal textures of ‘One’. Barbosa is the founder of the Heist Mode label, a regular DJ at underground techno events across the USA and Europe. He was also one of the performers on Richie Hawtins From Our Minds project, which toured the USA in 2023. Perc of course will be familiar to all Perc Trax supporters and this collaborative EP with Barbosa is his last major release before his next solo EP is released later this year.

London-based producer Alistair Wells operates as Perc, founding Perc Trax in 2004 as his primary outlet. His output spans driving techno and hard techno across labels including Stroboscopic Artefacts, Void+1 Recordings, and South London Analogue Material.
