Behind the Progressive House : Release Notes
First coming together in January 2025, Diego Riga and Redspace now continue their collaborative partnership with a brand-new twin-track EP in the shape of “Phantom Sun / Tibet”, including a pair of remixes from a trio of underground dance’s respected names. Diego Riga is an artist with a lifelong passion for music and a DJ career that has seen him frequent Belgium’s iconic clubs, later establishing himself as a resident at events including Gosto2night, Tomorrowlint and We Love Music. Taking his love for music to the logical next level, a fledgling production career that began in 2024 quickly blossomed into a collaborative EP with mentor and production partner Redspace as “Prosvetlenie / Two Personalities” found its way onto Paul Thomas’s UV Noir. Ryazan-born Redspace saw his own production journey in the realm of deep Progressive House begin in 2020 on his own Redspace sound imprint. Some 900 production credits later, the Russian artist has become a staple of Beatport Progressive House charts with releases on the likes of Mango Alley, Univack, and Dmitry Molosh’s Proportion. Now coming together in majestic fashion, “Phantom Sun” opens with commanding rhythmic presence and bassline gravitas. Building in energy, a bouncing bass groove adds dancefloor credibility as subtle melodic flourishes gradually enter the fray. Evolving steadily, a glittering arpeggio makes its presence felt at the breakdown alongside an emotive standalone piano motif before power is felt once more in the third movement as a searing lead takes an unexpected centre stage. Partner track “Tibet” continues the deep, dark, and mesmeric vibe as pads wash over the listener underneath a panoply of sonic textures and melodic interplay. Rippling synths and rotating phrases pan the left-right spectrum before an atmospheric lead creates a hands-in-the-air moment throughout the second half. Full of club-friendly character, the track is a collaborative triumph. Taking on remix duties, Cali-born Sebastian Valencia (COL) stands among Colombian house music’s most inventive young talents. Self-taught from thirteen, Sebastian has spent over a decade honing an experimental style rich in texture, arpeggios, and melody. A regular collaborator with countryman Kamilo Sanclemente, their joint work has graced Kling Klong Music, Melody of the Soul, and Plattenbank. Now taking on solo production duties for the first time, Sebastian Valencia’s remix of “Phantom Sun” takes the fundamental energy of the original and transforms it into another dark and devastating gem. Stripping back the shaker-driven energy of the original, huge pad stabs and immaculately cadenced synths extend Diego Riga and Redspace’s work in new scintillating directions that wax and wane with dancefloor know-how to create a stunning new interpretation full of melodic invention. A second remix sees EMPHI and Maze 28 combine for a joint remix. Stockholm’s EMPHI has emerged as one of Progressive House’s most consistent risers since a 2020 debut on Odd One Out, with work for Vapour Recordings, Solis Records, and Balance Music, plus a solo EP for GMJ & Matter’s Meanwhile in September 2025. Alongside him, Durrës-born Maze 28 has rapidly become one of Albania’s leading Progressive House exports. Debuting in 2020 at eighteen and breaking through with a blue-chip collection of releases on Anjunadeep, UV, Mango Alley, and Clubsonica, the pair debut with a head-shaking interpretation of “Tibet” that sees a new bassline groove and driving beat form the basis for familiar melodic refrains to appear in a different key and be surrounded by a plethora of additional production material and reverb-drenched effects. The result is a typically impressive deep progressive house extravaganza from a pair of producers at the height of their respective games.
