Type-303 makes his first appearance on Cold Blow with Enigmatic Dreams, a six-track 12″ that balances acid with the softer, more melodic end of early-’90s Italian house.nIt opens with “Module 303,” which eases the record in through a spacey dream acid haze, keeping the 303 close at hand while setting up the gentler mood that runs through much of the EP. n”Atlantic Dreams” features Dr. Rhythm, aka Mark Woollard, whose two original 12″s Cold Blow previously compiled and reissued as Hits The Vibes 91-92. While Dr. Rhythm only released those two original 12″s, Woollard continued working as a prolific library music composer, building a vast catalogue beyond the project. Digging into that archive, Cold Blow discovered a composition carrying the same melodic warmth and groove that made the original recordings so distinctive. Type-303 developed the idea into a new track, creating a natural link between Woollard’s past work and a fresh interpretation of that sound.n”Calypso of Acid” closes the A-side with late-’80s influences in full view, combining 808, 303 and M1-style piano sounds. On the flip, “Paradise” pulls from early-’90s Italian downtempo and Balearic moods, with the influence of Claudio “Moz-Art” Rispoli looming large over its easygoing, after-hours feel. “Morning (Ambient Mix)” draws on the softer, more atmospheric side of the same period, with a clear nod to the 1990-91 sound of the Italian label MBG. “Sound Escapes” closes the record with a warmer, open-air feeling that leaves the listener somewhere between the dancefloor and the horizon.
