Depth Perception on Nordic Trax

Behind the Deep House : Release Notes

Irish producer Balmr is one half of Southbound Sounds and makes his solo debut for NT with the laid-back Depth Perception ep. Following his previous collaborative releases for us, Balmr — now based in Spain — drops this five-track ep of Deep House goodness. The whole release has a chilled but moody vibe well-suited to the deepest of dancefloors. From the driving chords of Voices and smooth-sampled hook of Move Clear, to the dubbier vibes of the title track, Head First and Release, Balmr’s productions take the listener on a journey far off into the deep end. Balmr is producer and dj Greg O’Connell from Cork, now based in Valencia. As an avid record collector from an early age, he began to play locally and then internationally, frequenting Amsterdam hotspots while hosting his Down Right Deep show on Deep House Radio. With a love for the Detroit sound of Norm Talley, Mike Huckaby, Delano Smith, Moodymann and others he naturally moved into production. As Balmr he’s had stand-out vinyl releases on labels such as Selections Label & Sofa Movements, with remixes from Detroit’s Jon Dixon, DJ M4SH, John Daly and Glenn Davis to name a few. He’s one half of the Irish duo Southbound Sounds with Deep Excavations, releasing a string of bangers on Deeper Groove, Nordic Trax and Expanded Records. On top of his productions his guest dj mixes have been featured on numerous sites including Selections Label Invites (CAN), On The Reg (ARG), Groove Disciples / 80147 Records Podcast (IRE), House Saladcast (MEX) and most recently Lars Behrenroth’s Deeper Shades of House (USA). Upfront support: Brawther, Fish Go Deep, Lars B, Finest Wear, Stuart Patterson, Jon Delerious, Bart Ricardo, Jason Hodges, Miguel Graca, Mannix & more.
