Asymmetric head Inigo Kennedy returns to his label with a dazzling five track EP ‘Lingering Thoughts’. ‘Juxtaposition’ opens the EP in a dystopian electro vein, heavy bass pulses cement the track while an alien transmission fades in and out above. Second track, ‘In The Shadows’ lays down a solid four-to-the-floor kick against which percussion and a melodic counterplay take their turns in the spotlight. ‘The Simple Things’ lets infectious rhythm, synth stabs and acid blips play off each other, later joined by an edifying swell of pads and organ-like chords. Up next is ‘Breakthrough’ with its forthright kick and percussion, layers of uplifting synth work and an undercurrent of pitched down Detroit-style chords. ‘Lingering Thoughts’ closes out the release in majestic style and well and truly pulls on the emotional strings with an irresistible melancholy; a little reminiscent of Kennedy’s earlier work, ‘Plaintive’.
