Behind the Tech House : Release Notes
Kily Ruiz presents Freak Boy on Crazy Nutz Music, an EP connecting classic vocal character with a contemporary Tech House approach. Catalogue number NUTZ056 brings together Freak Boy and Here We Go, two Original Mixes at 128 BPM in which groove sustains the pressure and the voices establish complementary identities: nineties house and garage expression alongside the drive of rap and the melodic contrast of R&B. Kily began his career in Madrid in 2015, developing his sound through both DJ work and production. Working across Tech House and Minimal Deep Tech, Kily has brought his sets to LAB the Club, The Bassement, Art the Club and Specka, alongside appearances in Ibiza, The Hague and Breda. His background includes shared booths with Seth Troxler, Latmun, Claptone and Mha Iri, while his recording activity includes releases on And Dance. That experience finds a focused expression in an EP that gives the voice a precise role within the movement of each track. Freak Boy opens with five minutes and fifty-three seconds of sustained energy. A female voice in English, delivered with the assertive cadence of classic house divas, establishes its character through concise calls and rhythmic processing. “Are you ready?” builds anticipation and marks changes of section, while “Come here by my side” adds a direct invitation. Fragments of “Alright” become percussive loops synchronised with the kick and hi-hat, allowing the voice to drive the track as well as identify it. Chops, stutters, delay and reverb extend that interplay, while high-register, siren-like vocal cuts add tension. Vintage vocal expression meets the firmness of a modern Tech House groove. Here We Go develops a different direction across six minutes and two seconds. Its English-language performance combines fast, dry and sharply articulated male rap with a female bridge offering a more melodic delivery. Consonants act as small rhythmic strikes against the kick and bass, while the repeated “Shut up, just shut up, shut up” hook focuses attention around the main drop. Alongside that confrontational gesture, the sung section introduces emotion and a nostalgic connection to early-2000s hip-hop and R&B. The words suggest arguments and relationship friction, channelling that tension into the hook’s insistence. Vocal doubles, marked compression, light saturation, short delay and reverb complete a presence built around definition, attitude and contrast. What connects the tracks is their rhythmic use of vocals, with each retaining a distinct character. Freak Boy works through calls and percussive fragmentation; Here We Go connects rap momentum with melodic contrast. Both maintain their energy while offering different ways to build recognition and tension within a set. For Crazy Nutz Music, NUTZ056 strengthens a commitment to artists with DJ experience and functional productions that retain individual character. Kily Ruiz contributes an approach in which vocal references enrich the language of Tech House without displacing its centre. The contrast between the tracks gives selectors two distinct points of entry, while their common pulse and sustained pressure keep the release cohesive. Freak Boy combines personality and purpose in a two-track collection, letting the voices establish character and the groove carry that character onto the dancefloor.nnDistributed by Triplepoint – www.triplepointmusic.com
