Jake Shears

Jake Shears, born Jason Sellards in Mesa, Arizona in 1978, operates as both the lead vocalist of pop band Scissor Sisters and a solo electronic music producer. The American artist began releasing electronic music under his own name in 2021, transitioning from his background in alternative dance and glam rock into house music production. He has also performed under the alias Krystal Pepsy during his career.

Shears produces house music spanning deep house, melodic house & techno, and minimal/deep tech territories for Defected Records. His electronic productions maintain the danceable energy of his pop background while exploring deeper, more underground sounds typical of the 120-128 BPM range. Since 2021, he has released five tracks on Defected, with his most recent release scheduled for February 2026, indicating ongoing commitment to his electronic music evolution beyond his established pop career.
