The Black Dog

The Black Dog is a British electronic group that formed in London in 1989, originally consisting of Ken Downie, Ed Handley, and Andy Turner under the name Black Dog Productions. After Ed Handley and Andy Turner departed to pursue their Plaid project, Ken Downie continued The Black Dog through various lineups before partnering with Martin Dust and Richard Dust from Dust Science Recordings following an extended hiatus from the music scene. The group operates closely with Dust Science, their primary label outlet.

The Black Dog produces techno ranging from peak time driving tracks to more experimental electronica and ambient downtempo compositions. Their catalog on Dust Science and Soma Records spans 59 releases between 2010 and 2024, showcasing a sound that moves between club-ready techno and introspective electronic music.
