Comprised of well established Philadelphia pair Kenneth_Lay and V. Hold, Metasplice came to wider attention in 2012 with the release of the Topographical Interference EP on Rabih Beaini’s Morphine label, a relationship which has continued with a further single and the Infratracts album released last year. Part of a loose group of producers in the city weaving noise and techno into genuinely alien musical forms, the duo’s collective output has also spanned various solo and collaborative projects for labels like The Trilogy Tapes, Further Records and local Philadelphia label Great Circles. True to the label’s reputation as one that prefers to eschew the press machine in favour of simply putting out records when they’re ready, a new two track Metasplice shredder on Morphine has arrived and expands on their mind bending brand of experimental bleed laden techno. Both “Vertia” and “Tiled Eights” draw from a palette of ocean deep, modular paranoia that rewards the real freaks. Downwards returns with Live From Tokyo, a 12″ housing some rare live material from the Regis and Surgeon project British Murder Boys. Conceived in 2002 as outlet for the British pair to take their brand of techno into ever more extreme sonic territory, British Murder Boys material surfaced over a series of 12″s on Downwards and Counterbalance before the project was put on hold around 2006. Having been coaxed back into working together by Liberation Technologies, further BMB material is due to arrive through the more familiar outlet of Downwards. Ahead of a full BMB retrospective, Live In Tokyo would seem to originate from the duo’s performance together in the Japanese city last year. Stylistically you can expect a cut of brattish, broken techno wedged between some feedback laden noises pieces. Yellow Magic is the latest in a series of EPs on the Wighnomy Brothers’ label by this German duo. Following on from this year’s “Purple Magic” release, they have decided to give their studio trickery a different shade. The title track is a tracky, stripped back affair with vocal samples whispering in and out of the arrangement. It’s exactly the kind of track one would expect Robag Wruhme to play. “Consoli” follows in a similar vein, but “Trsnumak” ushers in a change of direction as rattling percussion and menacing organ playing are introduced. Although billed as a bonus track, “Segelboot” also impresses, with its jazzy keys and insistent bleeps. Peter Van Hoesen and Yves De Mey’s joint project, Sendai, will release an exceptional new EP via Stroboscopic Artefacts’ Monad Series on July 28. These two producers, both highly acclaimed in their own right, have so far pulled together for releases on Peter’s label Time to Express and Archives Intérieures, the experimental label they run together, as well as two tracks on a Stellate record for Stroboscopic Artefacts in 2012. The 18th edition of the Monad series finds them in fine form, exploring a rich and detailed sound with limitless freedom. Opening track ‘Isobaric 3’ is thick with atmosphere, crammed with reverberating percussion and masterfully sculpted with 3-dimensional design. It is the kind of immersive, futuristic techno that Lucy’s label is known for, fit to move both body and mind. ‘False Entities’, the EPs most abstract offering, combines machine hiss with unnerving bleeps and metallic perc. This eighth Dystopian record presents the debut proper of label co-founder Alex Do. Before this he appeared on the one various artist EP alongside Rodhad, Felix K and Recondite, and it seems now is his time to shine.
