The tracks on Families really provide further evidence of the somewhat mysterious producer’s endless progression into a musician of real talent, perhaps most notably on the title track collaboration with Glasser’s Cameron Mesirow. “Families” is in a word sublime, a perfect melding of pop sensibility and glorious electronic production. It’s obviously going to add to the reputation Talabot has amongst the music press glitterati, but crucially could see him gain wider appreciation. It opens with the title track, a dreamy mix of druggy NYC swing and weirdly detached jazz licks which previously featured on a tape for Trash Can Dance. ‘Falling’ follows with an effervescent lather of keys and pendulous, booming groove but, it really gets going on the B-side with the bloody hard-to-resist swing and dip of ‘The Addiction’ there for dancers, and again on a deeper tip with the sparse but effective ‘U Took My Love’.

Therefore it’s down to us to lay praise on a wonderful suite of tracks from PG Sounds, the production partnership of label co-founder SVN and Philip Gelberg. It’s the second PG Sounds release for SUED after the pair dropped 007 last year, a record that fully epitomised the label’s ‘does it play at 33 or 45?’ ethos. Much the same could be said about the six untitled cuts on SUED 010, where personal pitch preference really dictates whether PG Sounds operate at hazed out beatdown tempo or the sweet place near to the more abstract house cuts

This is Techno from Detroit and America, not Detroit Techno. We would like to see American Techno evolve, and this new imprint is an attempt to be a catalyst in that arena. We launch this label with what we consider to be an anthem, “WWKD.” This is a special sound system Techno and Bass hybrid that works in many contexts. It has the funk but is black leather tough. The B Side features some Deep Techno and Ambient tone exploration. We will follow this EP with another EP from Israel featuring new material alongside remixes from Silent Servant and BMG.
