Review SEFF – Jack’s Back [Hot Creations]

Mindmaze Music boss Joe Saunders aka Seff has been building quite the reputation for himself since he signed for VIVa Music back in 2012. Previous to this Saunders had been releasing heavier tracks under his own name as well as a couple of other guises, but under his Seff moniker he has seen more fruitful returns.

This new EP ‘Jack’s Back’ is a three track monster that see’s Seff combine with another heavyweight label in the way of Jamie Jones’s Hot Creations. With well over 50 releases now, Hot Creations continues to dominate in the modern house music scene.

Opening the EP is ‘Like That’. This chugging 4/4 has a thick,solid kick drum,lively hats and raw synth-lines that dominate this powerful groove. Next is title-track ‘Jack’s Back’. This jackin’ 4/4 is full of attitude, lead by its unusual bass-line that sounds like an old school double-bass recording. Short snappy vocal snippets add flavour over a quality drum production. Closing the EP is ‘Zoot’ a darker vibe than the previous two, this slick dub inspired groove is led by the Jamaican spoken vocal before being slammed into a deep, powerful groove that’s full of well-worked sections and breakdowns, An unusual track but one that will keep the floor interested.

‘Jack’s Back’ will be available via Hot Creations on the 19th January 2015.
