The latest release on Madloch’s Crossfade Sounds introduces Tokyo-based producer Ash Room with Taiko Dub, his debut on the label and an eight-track album shaped by dub techno, electronica and deep, understated atmospheres. Ryo Hashimoto began producing electronic music at 56, drawing on the lasting influence of Basic Channel while developing a prolific independent catalogue on Bandcamp and releasing through Portugal’s MiMi Records. Across “Fusuma,” “Matsuri,” “Kuro,” “Moya,” “Tani,” “Ito,” “Taki” and “Kanata,” detailed percussion, spacious arrangements and the resonant presence of traditional Japanese taiko drums create a refreshing dialogue between underground electronic forms. Taiko Dub captures an artist building his language through restraint, texture and rhythmic curiosity, making Ash Room a natural fit for the evolving Crossfade Sounds catalogue.
