‘Next up on Kuukou is a refined and highly focused 2-tracker from Red Channel, Prospect and Sound Market affiliate LUCRE. Coming out of Las Vegas via Chicago, LUCRE is a producer of principled discipline with a rigorous and uncompromising approach to dancefloor dynamics. The aim is simple: to place function over flashy form and generate tight, kinetic Techno that gets floors moving and keeps them moving. The aptly titled ‘No Applause’ kicks us off. A crunchy, tumbling loop twists as it courses forward, generating a heavy degree of magnetism. Stripped, powerful and richly textured, the mood is both fervid and poised as it runs at a steady rolling boil throughout. ‘Void’ follows up with some more masterfully managed tension. The aperture of the track dilates and contracts as textures thin and thicken, taking the floor through passages of intense claustrophobia into dizzying and expansive territory. The drums are cold and caustic as they gallop right to the conclusion of a pair of grooves that don’t implore attention but manage to completely arrest it regardless.’
