It was only a matter of time before Steyoyoke’s Dahu lent his sounds and skills to the Steyoyoke Black procession of releases. ‘Sedated’ is a two track EP that creates a whirlpool of undulating emotion and shadowed characters, all presented within the framework of an instrumental monologue. Uniting a collective of self-perpetuating grooves with a flurry of dark orchestral accents is the EP’s title track ‘Sedated’. Having already produced a string of releases for Steyoyoke, this all original 3 track EP from Nick Devon signifies his debut appearance with the new sub label. ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ provides you with an audio illusion of contrast and sound. Well known for their unique concepts and ideas, Steyoyoke continues to surge forward and launches yet another annual vinyl project. ‘Couple Affair‘ is both innovative and exciting, as it channels all the skills and talent already residing within the label. Two artists are paired together to collaborate on one track, allowing Steyoyoke to streamline their skills and co produce freely within the realms of the family. Without holding his breath or glancing back, Steyoyoke‘s newest artist Aaryon steps forward and plunges himself straight into the deep end with his debut EP ‘Fairy Tales‘. Comprising of two originals, a remix from Ran Salman and two remixes from Animal Picnic, this release is sure to leave its mark. The title track is a solid first release and a fine introduction of things to come from this artist. Possessing an exotic energy and hypnotic vibe, ‘Fairy Tales’ is driven by a strong momentum, that dominates and pushes you beneath a surface of beats. Deep bassline kicks and thrumming techno vibes are harmoniously laced with intense melodies that genuinely evoke a sense of fairy tale madness. Ran Salman is next in line to flavour ‘Fairy Tales’ with his sound and puts forth an edgier, slightly darker version. The intensity is a little more progressive and a smidge dirtier, but it mirrors that exact same drive and momentum from the original. Steyoyoke Black continues to make its presence known and with the wind of success in their sails they charge full steam ahead with their second release, which has already featured in Finnbassen‘s latest BBC Radio 1 podcast for Pete Tong. The ‘Tranquila‘ EP by Pete Oak features one original and one remix, with Dahu stepping forth for remix duties. ‘Tranquila’ is an EP that brings together not one, but two princes of darkness who perfectly reflect the sinister sounds now bound to Steyoyoke Black. ‘Tranquilla‘ is an ode to Pete Oak’s production skills and is indeed something to be admired. The rhythm is sharp, intense and demanding, with a heavy dose of percussion to help accentuate a strong sense of mystique and power. Steyoyoke’s Family Affair Vol.03 continues its tradition and delivers a remix compilation like no other. Bringing together a collective of musically spirited minds, each artist has created their own interpretations from some of Steyoyoke’s best tracks over the last 12 months. First up Soul Button dishes out his remix of Dahu’s ‘North’, which maintains the originals dark twisted elegance, however Soul Button adds a little extra percussive shine to this track.  Track number two is Nick Devon’s version of Soul Button & Sasch’s ‘Unfold’. The latest addition to the Steyoyoke roster is Brazilian bombshell BLANCAh. Her vocals already feature on some of the labels releases, but ‘Who’s That’ pushes BLANCAh even more forward into the limelight and moves her up to sit at the producers table. It’s her debut EP for Steyoyoke and, with no exception, it dishes out the quality synonymous with the labels success. ‘Who’s That’ comprises of one original, a radio edit and two remixes from fellow Steyoyoke greats Sasch and Soul Button. The title track opens with a rich atmospheric vibe and elegantly carries BLANCAh’s own vocals with dark grace. Backed by a steady beat and swirling synths, the track then steps out of the shadows to flirt with the mischief of the night. Sasch draws a more playful element out of the original. With subtle disco licks, a shuffling rhythm and a melodic core, this remix will have you grooving away before you know it.
