Acid Jesus – Radium 7:46 Total Playtime: 20:00 min Naif steps up with an interesting split disc that spans the new and the old, as L.I.E.S and Argot bright spark Gunnar Haslam takes over the A side with the fulsome bubble of “Overcomplete” while Roman Flugel’s long-standing Acid Jesus alias gets a little reissue treatment with the abrasive percussion workout of “Radium”. The former is undoubtedly the friendlier, darewesay delineated offering, as a tidy 303 line and steady drum machine sizzle work into a trusty formation for the floor. Flugel’s effort is of course a more fringe effort that makes dubby effects processing sound like the devils work, and is all the more distinctive for it.

Releasing sporadically and putting out some of the most abrasive electronic music on offer, it’s inevitably become one our personal favourites. Norway’s number one badboy, DJ Sotofett, has been ever more prominent on the label throughout the last few years, having put out some of his very best work for the label outside of then now-legendary Sex Tags Mania and Wania imprints. The A Side features an archival cut from F.R.U.I.T.S, the Moscow-based duo whose work has been a prominent feature of Laton’s output and “Dat22” is a fine addition to the label’s canon; a bass-heavy, electro-fuelled burner which is likely to blow any speakers out. Untitled 5:13 Total Playtime: 26:30 min The Sued label is fast approaching the status of labels like Laton and Acido in our collective heart here at Juno, and SW’s latest record for the label is a perfect example of just why. While the first part of SW’s Reminder offered a euphoric slice of techno that sounded like Shed going all-out with his more ’90s ambient tendencies, this second record is a much more nuanced affair. The minimal yet driving percussive sounds of “Track 1” are complemented by the most delicate of synth backdrops, while “Track 2” sounds like the essence of Chicago house distilled down to the atomic level. “Track 3” is a much more straightforward deep house jam, and “Track 4” may call Mr Fingers to mind, but there’s enough mathematical oddity in the rhythms to please the fans of more experimental fare as well.

Distorted Vision 5:02 Total Playtime: 19:15 min Last year was quite the breakthrough for Repitch Recordings founder Shapednoise with two albums on Opal Tapes and Hospital Productions complemented by the Violetshaped project with Violet Poison. With that latter endeavour seemingly put to bed, Shapednoise’s first solo 12″ of the year comes via the Russian Torrent Versions series. The eleventh release overall and fifth so far this year from RTV, this four tracker slots in nicely alongside the sonically abrasive contributions from Randomer, Domenico Crisci, Person Of Interest and NGLY and is perhaps the label’s most bracing release so far. Punishing tones seem to be the over riding concept, whether they are free of rhythmic concern (as on “The Existence Of A Vital Reality”) or melded to some loose, apocalypse defining groove (“Illumination” could quite easily soundtrack the end of the world).
